Herdís Hlíf
Herdill is a Reykjavík based visual artist born in 1999.
She graduated fram Iceland University of the Arts in 2023.
She mainly works in classic figurative, renaissance-esque oil painting with focus on technique and strong references to art history.
Her work tends to be dreamy, vulnerable, challenging and emotional. She uses painting, especially the self-portrait, as a tool to delve into herself and communicate what she finds to the audience, inviting them to mirror themselves in her. The works tell stories from her life, mixed with references and symbols from the history of culture and art, creating a tension between the present and timelessness, the highly personal and the common human experience, expression and the unspoken.

Herdill, amongst two other students, Eyþór Andri Sváfnisson and Eva Baldursdóttir, wrote and illustrated the childrens' book "Mjálmar" which was published by Stundin in November 2021.
